Mission:
Year One: Whispers in the Wind
Location: Solomon IV - Brighton Colony Landing Pad 5
Timeline: MD 3: 1030 hrs
“Confirmed, Colony Control. Beginning landing procedures.” The captain of the passenger freighter said as he tapped controls, turning to look over his shoulder to speak to the man just behind his chair. “We will be landing in ten minutes, Sir.”
Remy Naal nodded his understanding. Through the windows he could see they were beginning to clear the atmosphere. The land surrounding the main colony was lush with rolling green hills and prairies. There were large forests that grew up along the rivers that snaked their way towards the colony in one direction, and a body of water in the distance. It reminded him of the French countryside. “Very good, Captain.” He commented before heading back to the main passenger hold.
Stepping into the large room, Remy Naal took in the group. He noticed the half dozen Starfleet uniforms that stood out from the fifty-five civilians. He had agreed to allow Starfleet personnel to be transported to their ship assignments as long as they did not interfere with URC business. “Ladies and gentlemen, we are approaching Brighton colony. Starfleet personnel, you are to meet your commanding officers on the planet for your official assignments regarding the offloading of cargo and related matters.” He explained. “URC, you are to meet with your dedicated team lead for your duties regarding construction of houses and matters of integration between the colonists and refugees. Reports from the Moore indicate they took on additional refugees mid transport from the Neutral Zone. Some of these Romulans have been severely traumatized and are more distrusting of aliens as a result. Exercise extreme caution in how you interact with the refugees here people. Follow the lead of the Romulan leaders amongst the group in this instance. They have already been through enough, we aren’t going to re-traumatize anyone.” Remy said sternly. The fact Romulans we’re found being smuggled was the reason he specifically came to oversee this repopulation. The URC had gained Romulan trust, he was going to do all be could to see that extended to the Federation as well.
“The colony is begrudgingly accepting them. We’ve heard this before, people.” He added wearily. “The situation is tense along these remote colonies and outposts. Keep your guard up and stay alert but let’s do what we can to help smooth over relations. Understood?” His voice boomed through the transport and he clinched his teeth for a moment when he heard his father’s commanding voice in his own.
Lily watched Naal as he gave the instructions to what they would be facing. Upon his question as to him being understood, she spoke up, "Understood sir." she didn't have much to say at the moment, then reached down to check her go bag, carry on to make certain she had everything she needed. What she could hear in his voice and the expression in people's faces. Spoke rather loudly to her.
Within the time given to Remy, the transport landed on the landing pad. Putting on his worn field jacket, he led the group out onto the landing pad. It didn’t take long to find the on site commanding officers from the Moore. He recognized them from the briefing back in San Francisco. A small smile twinged his lips as he remembered the woman speaking up and addressing him.
Crossing the landing pad he wanted for the Starfleet officers to get their assignments from the two senior officers before he would approach.
Lily stepped off the shuttle and headed towards the persons she needed to report to. Her duffle bag was over her shoulder, and as she neared the persons she gave them a once over to get the status of their posture and any sort of body language they displayed. Stepping up she held out her transfer orders. "Lieutenant Marlow reporting in, sirs. "
"Marlow..." Kei regarded the woman in blue and then looked at her list pretending she hadn't already known who she was. A quick glance. "Chief Medical Officer. Your shuttle is late." she remarked.
"Yes it is. and yes I am." Lily not offering any excuses. "but we have arrived, Commander" short sweet to the point. No excuses offered. No throwing someone in front of an air car. Her gaze was calm cool and collected.
Steve gave a side eye at Keishara before smiling at the junior officer and offering his hand. “Lieutenant, my name is Commander Greco and this is Commander Davaris. It’s a pleasure.”
"Pleasure Commanders, I am looking forward to getting back to work." Lily responded, her British accent coming out slightly. "I hope you both are doing well enough." smiling pleasantly, as she shook Greco's hand.
"Don't look at me like that sir." Kei defended herself against his look. "I'm stating a fact." she gestured to the shuttle with the PADD. "It was late." before turning to Lily. "Yes, I am well enough on this sticky planet." she rolled her shoulders as if itching an irritation.
Hearing the lieutenant commander complaining, Remy decided to step in and save the junior officer from the other woman's irritation. "I'm afraid that's on me and my team, Commander." He said with a soft smile. "We were delayed due to some of my team needing to be reallocated to another colony after rioting on Telvor VI drove the Romulan transports off planet." He offered his hand to Greco. "Remy Naal, URC." He said before nodding at Keishara in respect before gesturing at Lily with it. "Doctor Marlow has been most patient. Always a good sign in a doctor, am I right?" He said with a soft laugh, trying to break any tension.
Steve shook the man's hand and gave his own smile, "Steve Greco, First Officer." he said dryly and nodded in agreement. He looked down at his PaDD. "Alright, Doctor...we have you assigned to the...Bravo Squad, assisting and evaluating the refugees as they get off the transports before joining the colony. You will be working with the Brighton medical staff and coordinating efforts to help setup the Romulans with their own hospitals. They are just on the other side of the colony." He pointed the direction to the medical facility through the market. "Though you are of course welcome to head to the Moore to bring up your things and get yourself acquainted with Sickbay first."
"I will see to my things first, then I can report into the facility, thank you." giving a nod. "It shouldn't take too long, and i would like to freshen up as well." Lily re-adjusting her bag. She cast a glance towards Keishara, a bit of curiosity towards the woman, "If I may be excused." she politely said.
"Yes, yes, I am not your mother." Kei replied to Lily before regarding Naal. URC, Keishara's opinion was divided on them and she hadn't forgotten the man from the meeting at Starfleet HQ not so long ago. He was good looking, charisma seemingly pouring from every pore of his body and thought himself funny. Kei studied the man as he interacted with Steve.
Remy could feel Davaris’ eyes on him but simply smiled. He had nothing to hide. Instead he turned his attention to the young doctor and offered his hand with a sincere smile. “Doctor, I wish you good luck. Le plus beau voyage c’est celui qu’on n’a pas encore fait. The best trip is the one we haven’t done yet. Adieu.”, he offered to the woman with a genuine smile. Remy didn’t speak with a French accent but his parents, mainly his mother, insisted he be raised knowing the language and his French heritage.
Steve turned his attention to the chief medical officer. “Dismissed, Doctor.”
'Politician behaviour.' Keishara thought to herself. Always trying to keep people on his side and being warm and fuzzy. She was sure though that he had a side he kept hidden, or shared when his back was against the wall.
"Thank you Mister Naal, I am very appreciative as the care you gave us during the journey." Lily said with a genuine smile, taking Remy's hand giving it a firm shake. "Until possibly next time we meet, be safe." With that she walked away towards the ship, to get herself sorted.
Once the doctor walked off, Remy turned his attention to the matter at hand. “Can you bring me up to speed on everything going and the situation with the Romulans you found? The report was a bit vague.”
He didn’t mean to sound so authoritative, but Remy had spent the better part of the last five years coordinating the missions for URC as well as having to be the supposed face of the humanitarian group. He is a former Starfleet officer who resigned out of a crisis of conscience as well as the son of a Dominion War hero, to boot. He was the best representation of the organization’s goal: providing aid to civilian colonies without the need for a military presence; even if he didn’t want to be.
"We have detained two individuals in relation to the trafficking of Romulan men, women and children. We have managed to get some navigational data from their ship, some encrypted communications we are still in the process of breaking into but no confession or names of those involved. The two in custody will be taken to a Starfleet facility where they will stand trial and most likely, with the data and evidence we have, be found guilty and sentenced accordingly. One will most likely break soon as they are of significantly weaker constitution." Kei reported. "The Romulans found have been treated for wounds and injury, fed and clothed properly and will no doubt be joining the Romulans on this world. We have reached out to the Romulan colony here."
Remy nodded at hearing this. Despite being nearly a decade since he wore a uniform, he couldn’t help the upright and commanding posture drilled into him for years as he naturally stood at ease. “Very good. I trust you have already meet the administrators?” He asked looking between them both.
Steve nodded. “Yes, Sir. They are looking to setup a separate colony on the planet for the colony. The people are already on edge by their presence.”
Remy shook his head in frustration and cursed under his breath in French. He was afraid something like this would happen. The URC had been meeting opposition at nearly every turn from the Federation colonies regarding this plan. Taking a breath, he smoothed his beard with his hand as he took this in and thought of a new game plan. “Alright…can you take me to them?” He asked of Keishara and Greco.
Kei looked at Steve who simply nodded. "Of course, Mr Naal. If you will head this way..." she feigned a small bow and wave of her hand in jest. Almost as if escorting a King to his subjects.
Remy gave Steve an incredulous look. Steve for his part only gave a slightly annoyed sigh and shook his head at the man before leading the group towards the administrative building.
