Mission:
Year One: Whispers in the Wind
Location: Brighton Colony - Administrative Building
Timeline: MD 10 - 0900 Hrs
Greco was going over security plans for the planet with Karla, looking at star charts of the planetary system. Layouts of the colony itself on the table beside Davaris. They were wanting to maintain proper security measures throughout the festival, both for incoming and departing ships as well as the planet itself. They were responsible for the URC convoy ships as well. “While the URC ships are docked on the planet, the Moore will do a continuous sweep around the planet acting almost as a toll to verify the ships coming and leaving the planet.” He explained. “They will need to provide identification for verification and a cargo and passenger manifest that will be directly transmitted to your port controls. We will monitor the transmission to make sure there are no irregularities for you.” He kept the news of the discovery of a device on the Moore’s communications array to himself and Keishara. There was no reason to alarm the locals.
Karla nodded at this information. “I see. I suppose there shouldn’t be any harm in extra security. But why are you increasing it. Has something happened?” She asked, disturbed by the sudden interest in security by the Starfleet officers.
Steve gave his most reassuring smile as he shook his head. “No, Ma’am. It’s just a precaution given the presence of URC representatives and the increase of traffic to the planet for the festival.” He explained.
Keishara listened as Steve and Karla spoke to each. "The influx of people and mixtures of species and culture where lovely and charming I am sure is a logistical clust---, nightmare that I never tire of." she grumbled.
Greco gave Kei a curious look before gesturing to her. "Commander Davaris has been working with your peace force regarding on the ground security measures. Commander..."
"Yes, and most have been quite receptive to what I've had to say. Most haven't managed an event of this scale so I am hoping they've paid attention. Not that I imagine there will be anything but some drunk and disorderly, potentially some anti social behaviour." Keishara replied.
Greco was about to go into further explanation if the security measures and routes when Remy Naal walked into the room in a slight rush, PaDD in hand. “We just had a URC convoy run off Telsia Prime. That’s the fourth colony in three weeks.” He said frustrated and concerned.
Steve furrowed his brow. “Any casualties?”
Remy shook his head. “No, but it was very hostile. My people said there were clear threats made and one volunteer was needing to be pulled aboard the transport when he was grabbed by the crowd. It’s getting nasty out there. We are finding an uninhabited planet from one of the survey teams to assign them to in the sector.” Remy looked at the officers and administrator.
Remy glanced at his PaDD before his face turned grim. He turned his attention to Carla. “Have there been any calls of actions against the Romulans here?” He said sternly with a no nonsense tone.
Carla looked at him surprised and shook her head. “No, people are not in favor of the Romulan colony, but it’s far from Brighton, on another continent. They have no reason to go there.”
Remy stepped closer to the table and gestured to the plans. “And what of the festival? Has there been any talk of plans of demonstrations or people organizing at all?” He asked more sternly, brusquely in fact.
Kei looked pensive for a moment before deciding it was pertinent information. "There has been some chatter, nothing concrete, that there plans to be some demonstration near the administration building but I think I have managed to stop that at the moment with a few well placed words." she sighed. "Then there are The Whispers... there have been some unconfirmed reports of them in this area trying to sew discord amongst colonies."
"We have some new arrivals for the Moore, Lt. Baaru is our new chief engineer and Lt. Commander Akimon in our new intel chief. It was she that brought the new information. In fact, here they both are now." Keishara gestured towards the pair walking up towards the group.
Walking towards the group of officers she'd been told to report to, Liana was doing her best to keep her thoughts positive. While it had taken her a few months to become comfortable with her previous engineering crew aboard the USS Lakota, she was sure that this time she could fit in a little easier if she had a positive outlook rather than a hesitative one.
She'd been on the colony world for a few days now and from what she'd seen and heard, things with the newly arrives Romulan refugees weren't exactly going well. For the most part, the Romulans kept to themselves in their own colony site, but the few that had chosen to try and interact with the local colonists didn't get the warm reception they expected from a federation colony world. While there wasn't any violence, the distain and distrust were clear enough to anyone who knew what to look for. Being a half breed Cardassian raised on Bajor, Liana knew the looks she'd seen on a few of the local colonists very well.
Stepping up to the group, Liana stood at attention before putting on a huge friendly smile, "hi there, I'm Lieutenant Baaru. I'm happy to meet you"
"Welcome to Brighton Colony, Lieutenant." Keishara said trying to be welcoming. She managed to tweak her mouth into half a smile. She'd noticed that most comments she'd make had Steve on tenterhooks and she worried he'd get whiplash with the amount of sharp turns he made at her comments. "How was your shuttle journey?"
Liana gave a shrug in response, “not bad. The impulse manifold needed to be realigned and I’m pretty sure the structural integrity grid and warp core needed a serious overhaul, but it got me here so I guess I can’t complain too much” she said in a rather nonchalant attitude. “I did offer but the pilot seemed to be insulted by my suggestions so I let it be”
Remy gave a polite smile and nod, as did Karla.
Steve reached out and offered his hand. "Welcome aboard, Lieutenant." he said with a confident smile before glancing around the room. "As it were that is." He added with amusement regarding her joining the crew but meeting on the colony. "Unfortunately, pilots tend to be a bit...difficult and set in their ways." He said with annoyance as he thought of Stewart.
Remy looked up briefly at the reference, a former pilot in Starfleet, his natural pride made him want to defend the department, but he knew better and went back to reviewing the plans with the administrator.
"You'd think the pilot would want to be set in his ways of having pride ni his space craft." Keishara shook her head.
Nahe crossed her right arm over her chest and gave a slight bow. " Greetings, I am Lieutenant Commander Akimon. I am here to serve. " She stated as she looked over the assembled group at the table. " There is unrest on the planet and it must have a common thread, I shall begin an investigation into it's cause and see what we can find. " She said softly.
“Yea, I noticed that too. There’s a fair amount of tension in the air. I haven’t felt people this worried since the occupation” Liana commented, looking to the other senior officers.
Kei looked at the new arrival in grey and raised an eyebrow. She spoke well, quite proper and a bit strangely for Kei's taste but she shrugged it off as she listened to her. "Thank you Commander Akimon. Any actionable information you gather can be passed to my department and I. We'll make sure it is put to good use." she said before looking towards Liana. She didn't think it was quite that amount of tension but she wasn't on Bajor during those years so had no reference point apart from the thereafter.
Steve looked over at both officers and nodded in greeting to the intelligence officer. "Glad to have you both with us." He said earnestly as he turned back to the plans. "Commander Akimon, once we are done here we are going to need to have you heading up to the Moore. There is a situation I want you to oversee with Ensign Bishop and Lieutenant s'Lovok." Greco turned to the young Engineer. "Baaru, I am going to need you helping on at the Romulan colony. The URC engineers could use a hand in setting up the power grid and getting systems setup over there. Head there once you complete your physical in Sickbay. What questions do you both have in the meantime?"
Nahe shook her head. " I have no questions, your orders need no explanation. " She stated with a smile. " I am to report for my physical and then proceed to the Moore to assist with an investigation, it shall be as you wish Commander. " She then took a seat and pulled out her PaDD to take notes of the remainder of the meeting.
Steve glanced over at Keishara. “Commander, can you get them both up to speed?” He delegated as he finalized plans with Karla and Remy for the festival.
"In the next few days there is to be a festival. It will have market stalls, pop up shops, events and things for the offspring of this world." Kei started to explain. "It is over several days and I have been coordinating with the peace keeping forces here as they were lacking in some organisation. It will be busy and I have heard it will be 'fun' but that remains to be seen. However, attending is not mandatory so you may stay on the ship if you want. I don't see much for you to do Commander Akimon, as for you Lt. Baaru I hear they may need some assistance in setting up some infrastructure if you can spare the time and staff. If not they can deal with it themselves."
" If I may Commander, there is plenty I can do on the planet. " Said Nahe. " I could covertly sweep for explosives and check for areas where trouble makers could set up ambush areas from. I could go down in civilian garb and see what I can learn. "
Kei nodded at the suggestion. "If you want to do some digging in your civvies then I will welcome any information you can give and if there is a credible threat we can work together to act on it." she looked out towards the others. "If we are done here, I'd like to move on."
