Mission: Prologue: Centre Predominate
Location: Ready Room USS Moore
Timeline: MD001 1200 hrs

The Moore was going on escort duty and possibly into combat. Normally Stryvek would have no issues with either of those things. However, his ship was without a few key positions. Starfleet Command has stated that they will most likely not be able to fill the positions for quite some time due to the distance. Stryvek knew the logic in what he had to do. "Dr s'Lovok please join me in my Ready Room."

"Certainly Captain," Amarok replied and entered from the Bridge. He'd been checking out the Bridge stations for sciences and previously was in Engineering, poking around.

Now he stood in front of the Captain, whom he'd trying to place as the Vulcan seemed familiar. "Greetings," he said.

"Greetings Doctor. Please sit down." Stryvek began and leaned back in his chair while he tented his fingers. "Before I get to the reason that I called you here. Please indulge me with an answer to a question. I know that you are here to serve as a civilian observer and to assist with the Romulans if needed. So my question is how do you feel operating within a command structure?"

Amarok sat down and attempted to get comfortable for a moment before he focused on the Vulcan. He nodded. "I do have experience working in a hierarchy from the projects I participated in at Daystrom." He said and gestured to himself. "Like you said I am merely a civilian observer, I'm not quite sure I am able to help with the Romulans," he said with a mixture of disgust and hatred at the name of his people, "in any official capacity as I am a scientist not a diplomat."

"You would be able to provide some incite into how your people react and think in a general situation. But, as you said you are a scientist and it is for that reason that you are here. The needs of the Romulan people have caught Starfleet a tad off guard. As such this ship will have to put out to mission without certain key positions. One of those positions is a Chief Science Officer. Logic dictates that you are the best person for that position. So, the question is will you take it?" Stryvek had more to say on the matter, however, he had to see if the Romulan wanted to perform in that higher capacity.

A somewhat selfish half smile tugged at the corner of his lips. "For as long as it takes for Starfleet to get you a Chief Science Officer I would be delighted to assume that role Captain." Amarok said his half smile became a full one.

"Before you fully accept the position you should know what I expect. Even though you are a civilian I would expect you to wear a Starfleet Sciences uniform while on duty. With the assistance of myself and Commander Davaris you would be expected to learn Starfleet Bridge procedure. Experiments and the needs of the mission at hand will always take precedent over yours or anyone elses experiments. For all intents and purposes you will be expected to function as an officer in Starfleet. Do you understand? Do you have any questions?" Stryvek's eyes bore into the Romulan before him. The idea of a Romulan on the bridge crew did not appeal to the Captain. However, it was logical. The Vulcan also saw that there could be something for him to learn from this.

The scientist nodded. "I appreciate you and Commander Davaris assisting me with protocols, thank you Captain." He grinned, "may I wear my lab coat?" Amarok requested.

There was no rule or regulation that said one could not wear a labcoat with their uniform. "Yes you could wear a labcoat over your uniform. Report to the ship's Quartermaster and obtain your uniform and provisional rank. Computer please note in the ship's log that under my authority as Captain I am hereby granting Amarok s'Lovak the field rank of Lieutenant. With all the rights and privilages therein." When Stryvek finished speaking the computer chimed its acceptance of the Captain's orders.

"s'Lovok, sir," Amarok said. He stood. "I will not take up anymore of your time Captain," he did recall that senior Starfleet officers liked to verbally tell their subordinates when they may leave and so waited.

Stryvek leaned back in his chair as the doors closed. He wondered if he had made the right decision. Logically having the Romulan as Chief Science Officer was correct. However, now that the tensions ran aas high as they did he feared someones emotional outburst. He raised his eyebrow as he realized this was one issue that only time could solve.
