Mission: Year One: Whispers in the Wind
Location: Gym
Timeline: MD21 - 2100 Hours

Kei had been neglecting her fitness regime since the bombing down on the surface. There had been a lot to do between picking up the pieces of the colony, investigating the bombing itself and coming up with relief plans and security plans to keep the remnants of the colony safe from further attacks. The colonists were all up in arms with fear and anger over what happened, and rightly so.

She had been in the gymnasium for an hour by this point so was quite sweaty and already in the swing of things. At the moment Kei lay on her back doing abdominal crunches. Around here there were a few others using the gym so other noises could be heard in the background.

Dressed in fitness uniform shorts and an open-sides tank top with a towel around his neck, Amarok entered the Gym. His burns were still present across his back and back of his arms, the tank top didn't really cover if seen from the side. He rarely allowed any visible restoration of his body, he wanted to see his life's scars. If he ever lost his memory he wanted a visual history of what he had been through.

He glanced around the gym to see what he wanted to do, he had to work out his back to get his body good with the burn scarring. Amarok spotted Security Chief Davaris and she was clearly sweaty. He wasn't sure if he wanted to interrupt her so soon, he noticed the pull down weights machine was within conversation range of her.

He walked over and put the towel on the seat. "Hello Commander." Amarok greeted as he sat down with his back to her for the machine was against the mirror wall.

Keishara had glanced up as the doors opened. She always did, she liked knowing who was in her space. It seemed there was always a threat assessment to be made and sometimes she wasn't even aware she was doing it.

"Lieutenant." She replied to Amarok looking at him as he sat down. The burns on his back still looking as red as the fire that burned many. Almost like a badge of honour for surviving that mess.

Kei never judged those that chose not to get scars healed. She was the same way. Standing up she began to do some lunges with kettlebell weights. "How are you recovering?" she asked trying to be nice.

Beginning with lat pull downs Amarok grunted a few times as he got into a rhythm. "Fairly well, still quite tender though. It feels...odd," he replied between one pull and the next. "You didn't get injured did you Commander?"

"I can understand that. Burns are usually worse than cuts and bruises." Kei agreed with his first comment. "And thankfully I was lucky to be a good distance away from the Admin building when that bomb went off. I got a few scrapes but it was more mentally exhausting, mentally challenging with what came after."

"I can only imagine," Amarok said as he did two pull downs in rapid succession and then again before he gently let the weight back into idle position. The tenderness making him cringe, the pang of semi pain and discomfort mingling as he looked over his shoulder. "Let me know if you need anything examined," he offered with a nod.

Kei arched a brow but quickly dispelled it at his offer of examination. Should she have needed anything like that she'd go to sickbay to a medical doctor but she was sure he was only trying to be nice. "Thank you." She replied. "Aside from all the bad shit over the past few days and weeks. How are you settling into life on the Moore?" she asked.

The raised eyebrow from her immediately made him realise how'd that sounded. "Oh apologies I meant examine anything for the bombing investigation," he kind of blushed a little green at the implied assumptions. He relaxed at the change of subject. "I have always respected Starfleet and that has clouded a little given recent events, I hope we solve whatever is going on. As for the Moore, I'm still civilian and here to help with the current mission. I do hope to return to Earth soon." Amarok said, he faced the machine again and began a few more pull downs. The out of place guilt being a provisional officer still lingered strong, he'd someday go to the Academy.

"Ah." Kei nodded. "Thank you again but most of the debris and evidence collected has been examined and catalogued by engineering, operations and security. Although I appreciate the offer." she tried to sound nice and sincere.

"You may still be a civilian but you've still been given a provisional commission making you part of Starfleet at the moment." Kei replied trying to make him feel like one of the team. "If they didn't want you to be part of the crew, of Starfleet then they wouldn't have given you a rank and just left you as a civilian. Can also look at it as you're valued here enough to be given the department head position. I wouldn't be surprised if you were kept on after this mission. Unless your goal is to leave and stay on Earth?"

He paused his pull downs and glanced over his shoulder. "I thank you for the nice words Commander. I will have to think on it more when the time comes." Amarok smiled. It faded as he let the pull down bar back to its idle position and turned around to face Keishara fully. "Is it inappropriate to ask if the investigation has made any conclusions we can act on ma'am?"

"You should thank me... I'm not often this charming." Kei smirked and sighed. "Must be tired." she chuckled inwardly. "Not inappropriate given your position as a senior officer no, but you know everything you need to from the briefing given last week. Anything new beyond that I can't talk about as its still an open investigation, and not quite a topic of conversation for the gym." she nodded to the others around her in earshot. "We are heading for the Telnov system. Probably around 2 weeks out at this point. We'll see what happens when we get there." she added already knowing a tactical plan was being drawn up.

Amarok blinked, twice, "I did thank you," he smiled. "Oh I forgot to ask you about weapons certification, I don't believe it was addressed when I was placed as Chief Science Officer?" He asked, he glanced off as he looked like he was recalling memories.

After his work out he planned to check out the Telnov system at the ship's library, he wondered if there was anything special about the system. Maybe there was info they could use.

"It's not a requirement for a civilian to hold a certification in weapon/firearm proficiency. As your rank is provisional, a temporary commission, you wouldn't have the training regular officers have." Kei replied. "So, there was nothing to address. However, if you want to renew an old licence or gain a new one then we can look into doing that for you."

Amarok nodded as he focused on Kei again. "Do the Executive and or Commanding officers have to approve?" He asked. "I would like them to be aware," he wasn't sure of the reasons but many could be put forth.

"No, they don't need to approve. As security chief it falls under my responsibilities." Kei replied. "I need to approve." she chuckled lightly. "And I have no problems with you obtaining a licence provided its not for anything beyond protection of yourself and I can inform the XO and captain if you want. Unless you want to do so yourself."

He smiled. "Yes protection, I would like to book an appointment for the license when there is an appropriate time?" Amarok asked then quick did his last set of pull downs, about 6 was the limit as he was quite tired of this particular action. He stood once he was done and shifted his shoulders around to help the lactic acid sting.

Turning to face Kei he smiled. "Would you happen to require any help with any workout?" Amarok asked.

"I'll need to check." Keishara replied. "I'll get back to you on a date and time." she dabbed herself with a towel, she was done for the evening. "I appreciate the offer Amarok, but I'm done for the night. I've been in here a while." she paused for a drink of water.

A miniscule widening of his eyes as she used his first name, he wasn't ready for it. Though he recovered almost instantly. He wasn't really concerned if she saw it. "Very well, thank you. Have a good night Commander." Amarok said with a nod.

"And you." Keishara nodded, paused for a moment, then left the gym to hit the shower back in her quarters.
