1,730 words; about a 9 minute read

Mission: Prologue: Centre Predominate
Location: USS Moore - DMZ
Timeline: MD 25: 0010 hrs

Stewart finished the last of her sixth ale and looked up at Kei from her side of the foosball table. Stewart was losing to Keishara, badly the last few games. Her reflexes were getting sloppier the more drunk she got, but they were having a good time. “Another round?” She asked about another ale and shot, offering to go up to get it this time.

Ever since they found the group of refugees being smuggled, Stewart found herself looking to numb more and more to the emotions of the situation. The last week she found herself waking up in her bed, not sure how she got there from where she was drinking on the couch in her quarters. She already was late two of her last five duty shifts.

"If that's what you want." Keishara replied already noticing the loss of motor skills that Evelyn was showing. Also the shift in her mood of late had changed, almost distant. There was also the lack of professionalism in regards to timekeeping that she had also noticed but had not said anything. She had the feeling if she did that Ev would blow a gasket. "I don't think it'll help your game though." Kei teased.

Evelyn sighed and nodded in agreement, glancing at the bar seeing that Char was closing it down for the night. “Regardless it looks like closing time.” She commented and came around, her hand brushing against a spot on Kei where Stewart knew she had a tattoo. “Maybe a nightcap then, in my quarters?” She suggested. She was feeling much better than when they arrived. After four shots of whiskey and six pints, Evelyn achieved her goal and felt nothing but was looking for an enjoyable way to unwind for the evening.

The touch on her left shoulder blade was a more familiar one than Kei was expecting from Evelyn. There was a slight squeeze that gave her pause but she shook it off to her just being affectionately friendly and smiled at her. It was the exact position of a tattoo of an El Aurian bird like creature, a graceful and beautiful thing now long gone. "Good thing too... anymore of that ale and I think your reputation at foosball would have been beyond repair." she joked a little.

"Sure, I mean I'm not working until later tomorrow." Kei answered to the night cap invite. "Just a few drinks and I'll let you get some rest though." she made a little clearer based on last time, but she didn't think Ev had the impression that Kei was going to set anything in motion.

Evelyn laughed as they left the lounge, shaking her head. “You are starting to sound like Greco, you know that?” She teased as she led them to her quarters.

Once inside, Evelyn took her hair out of the braid as usual and went to the small table in the corner where she had arranged the various bottles of alcohol she brought with her on board. Though the number of bottles had shrank considerably over the last few weeks. “What will you have?” She asked, “Unfortunately I’m all out of Romulan ale. The same with the bloodwine. I drank the last of that when I was confined to quarters.” She said a little heat in her voice, glancing at Kei for the briefest of moments as she did so. She didn’t address it with Kei but she wasn’t pleased she was confined to quarters while Davaris seemingly got away with their interrogation, more like beating, of the Ktarian scot free. Stewart poured herself a large whiskey while patiently waiting.

Keishara had been wearing a blank tank top and jeans, nothing too flashing as she never did want to attract too much attention to herself. She took off her small jumper and listened to Evelyn as she spoke. She noticed a few empty glasses over by the larger table, the levels of the bottles had dropped since she was last there, but that was a while ago. "You know I'll drink anything Ev, you can choose." she smiled warmly. "Your quarters could use a little clean up..." she hinted towards the empty glasses. She was concerned.

Evelyn glanced around her quarters as she poured Kei her own glass of whiskey. The room was mostly tidy. She scoffed when she noticed the empty glasses she put to the side from the night before but hadn’t recycled yet. She shook her head as she gave Kei her glass. “I hadn’t gotten around to cleaning up from last night yet.” She said evenly and shrugged. “Besides, I didn’t realize this was a dormitory inspection.” She added sarcastically, though not quite as good natured, as she took a healthy sip of her own whiskey.

"If it was you'd fail on that." she teased back as she accepted the whisky. "Thank you." Kei accepted it with a smile as they fingers brushed ever so slightly, a small charge of static popping between them.

Evelyn gave a small flirtatious smile and her hand drifted down to hover near the spot of one of Kei’s more intimate tattoos. “No problem.” She whispered before moving to kiss the other woman.

Kei had goosebumps as Evelyn touched her on the tattoo on her hip. Her hand curved around it almost as she could feel Evelyn's warm breath brush across her neck before meeting her lips.

A kiss. Nothing out of the unusual right given what they'd done before? Nah, course not.

Kei leaned into it, their faces lining up before it dawned on Kei what was happening. For a moment they stopped to catch some breath, their foreheads pressed together. "Ev, what are you doing?" she said softly. Not wanting to open her eyes she kept them closed as her breath sped up.

Evelyn gave a small laugh as she smiled, though it had more to do with the alcohol than what Kei said. “Come on, Kei. Why do you think I invited you to my quarters?” She asked rhetorically, moving to kiss the El-Aurian again briefly. “Why do you think you even came here?” She kissed Kei again, more confidently as she pulled the other woman closer, being more assertive than the last time they were in this circumstance.

Kei let out a little moan of pleasure at the kiss. Evelyn was certainly being the more domineering one of the two women. She could feel Evelyn's hands on her pulling her in, the gap between them never being more than she wanted. For a moment Kei moved in deeper and placed her hand up the side of Evelyn's face.

Evelyn smirked as she returned the kiss, her hands moving to the hem of Kei’s shirt in an attempt to remove it.

A strange moment of clarity came over Keishara, and she hated herself for it. Why was she thinking like this?

She stopped Evelyn's hand and pulled back. "I came here because you asked me to and I didn't want the night to end. You're fun and I enjoy spending time with you but... I know you'll regret this in the morning and I don't want you to."

Evelyn looked at Kei and gave a small laugh. “Cute.” She commented. “Does your conscience feel better now?” She asked with a sarcasm that wasn’t quite playful before kissing the woman again, pulling her close like before by her waist. Slowly Stewart’s lips moved to her neck.

Kei felt her hips buck towards Evelyn as for a moment an instinct took hold. She even bit Evelyn's lip a little before Ev moved to her neck. However, she again placed her hands on Evelyn's shoulders and said, "Stop Ev. We did this before and it didn't work out well.", what happened needed no reminder.

Evelyn only half listened, instead focusing on the woman’s body language as she pulled Kei close again. One hand running up her bare back under her shirt, the moving into Kei’s hair to hold her still as she kissed her again more insistently. She was tired of Kei’s little game of playing hard to get. “It’s fine Kei…. You did your job of being the good friend….Now shut the hell up and drop the act.” She managed to say against Kei’s lips between increasingly urgent kisses. Her growing frustrations making her tone harsh.

Evelyn was so intoxicated she wasn’t thinking. She only acted on instincts and urges. Hearing the word “stop” only told her instincts and her defiant streak that she simply needed to work harder for what she wanted, like it always had.

"Evelyn, I said stop!" Kei pushed her off her with more force and urgency than she had done before. She wiped her mouth, some saliva escaping the somewhat forced and passionate kissing.

A frown formed on Kei's brow. "I am not 'playing' the good friend, I am being one." she said almost defiantly but at the same time keeping her tone soft and empathetic. "You are drunk, and you need to listen to me."

Evelyn looked at Kei. “You’re serious.” She said incredulously. She had genuinely believed this was all some sort of game Keishara was playing. Taking a breath to calm herself, she flipped her hair behind her shoulder before putting her hand on her hip and considered. Evelyn wasn’t used to being rejected and she didn’t like it. She looked at Kei as she nodded in understanding but clearly annoyed. “Fine.” She said, not hiding her annoyance of the situation.

Instead of approaching Kei or even apologizing, she grabbed her glass of whiskey and headed for the bedroom. “You know where the door is.” She coldly called out to Kei as she walked away, sipping her whiskey as she opened her uniform jacket.

Kei watched as Evelyn walked away. Her annoyance written on her face as well as emanating very obviously from her mind. She could do nothing but shake her head.

Hearing the doors of the bedroom close Kei downed the drink she had and walked over to the doors. She was going to knock but hesitated and thought better of it. With a sigh she headed for the door to leave and headed back to the DMZ to have a few more before going home.
