Mission:
Year One: Whispers in the Wind
Location: USS Moore - Sickbay
Timeline: MD 008 - 1600 hrs
Dashku liked to get the meet and greet with the Doctor out of the way as quickly as possible. Her shift on the bridge was over and that meant checking off as many of the boxes as she could when first coming aboard a new starship.
As she arrived in sick bay, she checked in with a nurse who had her wait while she went to retrieve the doctor. It gave Dashku a minute to look over the place, it was very white and felt sterile compared to the sickbays she's been in before. She didn't hate the place, but she also felt slightly out of place.
"Excuse me doctor there is someone to see you." came the voice of the nurse that was on duty.
Lily looked up from the set of towels she was folding in her massage therapy room. "Thank you." she responded, placing the stack of towels upon the shelf meant for that. She wandered out to where the main sick bay was, noticing that the woman she had seen in the meeting was there. What was her name? Oh yes Dashku.
"Hello Lieutenant Zhevou." Lily greeting the operations officer with a warm welcoming smile. She had her blue smock on and a pencil tucked behind her right ear. "Looks like you are ready to get your check up out of the way. I can't blame you at all. We could do the fast quick and easy way and you can run away from the doctor. I'd even offer you an apple to keep me way" she quipped. "Sadly though I am all out of apples for the most part, well until I bring in a few more from stasis."
"I would rather get things out of the way, it's always been in my nature to drive forward rather than backwards," Dashku replied with a slight smile, as she looked to the doctor. "I never really liked apples in their natural state. I ate them with peanut butter some times. I did grow found of apple pie in the academy, of course that's where I discovered peanut butter."
"Well, I can't fault you as to preference for apple pie. Warm apple pie with a scoop of ice cream on top of it. " Lily made a chef's kiss gesture. "That is something I love, especially one that my dad makes. He's a top notch chef, well that is my own opinion." Lily remarked as she started her scans on Dashku. "But people do love going to his restaurant."
She paused in her speaking as Lily ran the tricorder over Dashku, then continued. "Sorry, that triggered a very good memory, so I went on a slight tangent." Lily said apologetically, but having a twinkle in her eyes of amusement. "I wonder if the cook on this ship will let me invade his or her kitchen , or will I need to get something worked out in my quarters to do some cooking and baking." she mused out loud as she took a good look at Dashku's scans. Heart rate looked good, as well as her sight. "You are definitely a very healthy individual."
"No, no I understand," Dashku nodded her head and smiled. "My best memories of my father are associated with the smell of the ocean air and a fishing boat that stunk like rotten fish guts. I'd love to be back on that ship again."
Lily chuckled, "I may not have been on a fishing boat, but I am well aware of the stink of fish guts. I used to accompany my dad to the wharf to get fresh fish for his restaurant. Mom also used fish remnants for her garden." she seemed rather pleased at the results of the scans. "It looks like you have passed the examination with flying colors. See, short sweet and to the point. Now though I have a hankering for apple pie and I blame you." Lily giving a teasing wink at Dashku and a light laugh.
"It's far worse when the stink has soaked into old wood," Dashku laughed fondly, how different her life would have been if not for her mother. Still it wasn't all bad. "I'm glad I'm in good health. I could use a cup of katheka or coffee depending on what the mess has, if you don't mind company?"
"I do not mind some company, I'm still just getting to know the crew members. And I've been busy getting familarized with all that is in Medical. In some way giving it my own touches, to a certain extent that is. I feel that there could be a touch of greenery, in some areas. Definitely not in the surgery though. That has to be sterile and unadorned except for the instruments." Lily responded, as she removed her smock in readiness for heading for the mess.
When the ladies arrived at the mess, Lily indeed got the apple pie and ice cream, plus she decided to get a cup of coffee. She was in the mood for it. Her coffee was black, slightly sweetened, the ice cream and apple pie would be a lovely counter balance with the coffee.
"Shall we grab a seat over there?" Lily asked, indicating a free table.
Dashku had gotten a mug with a scoop of vanilla gelato, a smaller cup with espresso and a piece of biscotti. The apple pie didn't look bad but she wanted something a little lighter. When Lily pointed to a free table, she nodded and started to head for the table. Once she'd sat down, she picked up her espresso and poured it over the gelato.
With a smile, she took the spoon and started with a bite. "Hmmm, as good as the last time I had it."
Lily watched with curiosity as to what Dashku put together. "I've not seen that combination before. What would be the name of that dish? And it does look good."
"Something else I was turned onto in my academy days. It's called an affogato. You take a scoop of gelato and pour espresso over it," Dashku took her spoon and scooped out some of the gelato with the espresso and took a bite. "It's very good, light for when you don't want a heavy dessert."
"I am going to have to try that sometime soon. However, Today is apple pie and ice cream for me. " Lily said, giving a bit of a smile before digging into her dessert.Between bites she asked, "What sort of hobbies do you like to do when off work?"
"There is nothing wrong with wanting apple pie," Dashku replied with a smile. "I have a variety of hobbies. I usually have some kind of engineering project I'm working on, when I'm not doing that I'm working on my forms. I enjoy just getting lost in some music from time to time."
"When you say forms, are you meaning martial arts or something else?" Lily asked. "And what sort of music speaks to you?" She inquired, taking another bite of her apple pie.
"Yes, martial arts. There are certain expectations on the first daughter in an Orion house, knowing how to fight was one of them," Dashku took a deep breath, there was more too it than that but she wasn't really wanting to talk about it. "And I have always enjoyed what humans call rock and roll. We have a similar kind of music genre."
Lily gave a nod when Dashku mentioned it being martial arts. "Rock and roll, what era do you prefer to listen to?" Lily asked, before continuing to eat her pie, the ice cream now intermixing with the filling of the apple pie. To Lily she loved the decadence of the interplay of flavors.
"The computer has introduced me to many different styles, some are very similar but others are very different. If we're talking about earth, I believe 20th and 21st centuries have some good bands," Dashku took another bit from her cup. "For Orion music, more modern but that's also what I grew up with which makes sense. What about you? What do you like to do in your down time?"
"Well, when I can find out if I can claim a little grow box, I do like to do gardening. When on a ship I like to read, do a little bit of sewing if there is a holodeck or holosuite I like to do surfing and swimming, hiking, camping. I also play the piano. One other thing I like to do is cook as in the general sense both baked goods and other dishes. The only martial arts sort of thing is Tai Chi. I also do some drawing. Eh I've got a few interests." Lily remarked.
"Have you ever gone fishing? My father was a fisherman and I would much rather catch my dinner than try to grow it," Dashku said with a smile.
"And any time you need someone to test out some of your baked goods, please keep me in mind. I will make sure you have whatever you need to make them as your Chief of Ops," She winked at Lily.
"Oh I do fish, freshly caught fish cooked over an open fire. It is divine, and I'd be delighted to have you be my quality control taste tester." her eyes lighting up with delight.
She spooned up another bit of her pie and ice cream then her eyes widened. "Oh, something to ask you about. I am going to be creating a massage therapy room. Liana, the chief engineer had mentioned that I would need to speak with you, besides her, just so it can be put together. Maybe sometime us three can get that started? I do have a room that I have in mind a part of medical that can be dedicated to that."
Dashku arched one of her brows, while she wasn't against the idea it on a ship this size it would likely mean repurposing part of the ship they might need elsewhere. She took another bite herself to give herself another moment.
"I'll need to take a look at what's being used currently and what space we have to set that up," Dashku paused to consider it another moment.
"Sickbay is deck seven, you share a lot of space with Security. Maybe they have something they can give up? Of course they are likely to want something in return." A grin crossed her lips. "And so the game begins."
"Well, I was thinking of turning one of the medical storage rooms into my massage therapy room. Unless you have a better suggestion. I'm open for suggestions and I can get away with an 8x10 room." Lily offered up.
"I don't like the idea of taking away from medical storage, you're going to need those supplies if we find ourselves in trouble," Dashku said simply. "I'll take a look at the schematics tomorrow. Submit a formal request with a range of sizes that will work and I'll see what I can do."
"Okay, I'll get that to you then and thank you." Lily said. By this time she was finished with her pie and ice cream. Lily looked down, at the now empty plate. "That was good. I probably should get going, and who knows maybe you and I can go fishing sometime. I think it would be fun."
"Just don't get too upset when I catch more than you," Dashku gave her a playful smirk, before finishing off her own dessert. "I look forward to working with you Lily. Have a good rest of your evening."
Lily couldn't help but grin at the challenge Dashku stated. " I promise not to melt into a puddle of histrionics if you catch more. However when we do go fishing oh its on... Competition" then gave out an amused laugh. "I am looking forward to that. And I am also looking forward to working with you."
Dashku tilted her head for a moment before she nodded, as she collected her own things and slid back from the table and headed off in her own direction. It had been a long first day and the idea of just heading to her room and working to get it set up was appealing.
