Evelyn had been working on convincing Kei to join her to check out the festival all morning. Now she was waiting around for her to change. "Come on, Kei! No one is going to care what you are wearing after an hour." She teased, finding the situation both amusing and frustrating as her patience was wearing thin. They were supposed to meet Remy half an hour ago, though she didn't tell Kei that.
"You know you just sprang this on me an hour ago!" Kei yelled from the other room. "You can't just show up and expect me to be ready." There was shuffling in the back but she was out before long.
Kei appeared from behind the half opened doors wearing a slightly colourful and flattering dress, kind of short on the legs but still graceful and sweet to look at. Almost seen as a complete opposite as her persona projected.
She gestured as if to ask 'well?' before moving any further. "If you like it we can go, and don't just say you do because I'll know you're lying..." she pointed to her head. "Empath remember?"
Evelyn just quietly chuckled to herself at Kei’s complaining. If you only agreed the first time I asked when on duty this wouldn’t be an issue, Stewart thought before moving away from the wall she was leaning on to look Keishara over. She gave a look as if she had to think it over hard. “Well, it depends.” She said with a false earnestness. “What exactly are Commander Davaris' intentions?” She asked with a mischievous smirk before laughing.
"Oh it is Miss Davaris when off duty." she teased back as she spun herself around as the dress barely moved from her body. "And it all depends on the intentions of others. Does Ms Stewart have wild, uncontrollable intentions for Remy and company?" she smirked.
Evelyn laughed and gestured to Kei's shoes. "Lose the shoes. The festival grounds are expected to be crowded and massive. I'd hate to see you break ankle trying to navigate through everyone." she said honestly. Stewart herself was in a light, loose knee-length white skirt and a tanktop that was a combination of turquoise, blues and greens with an open back that hugged her body, accentuating her sun-kissed skin even more. She had simple, comfortable brown sandals that did nothing to make up for the height difference she had with most people. She styled her hair completely down but pinned back off her face. It had been a long time since she could justify dressing for life outside of Starfleet and Evelyn intended to enjoy it to the fullest. She did make a face at Kei regarding her mention of Remy. "I told you, we are just friends." she said with a certain amount of censure in her voice.
"I am not not wearing shoes." Kei huffed as she walked back into her room and came out wearing a more suitable pair. A pair of boots that did nothing to compliment her dress. "I hate wearing shit like this... but I am trying to be more 'colourful'." she said gesturing to her dress, ignoring the boots. "Oh, and I am sure you are just friends... now." she winked at Evelyn and moved to the door. "C'mon."
Evelyn just rolled her eyes at the El-Aurian’s demeanor and choice in shoes. With her own huff, she went to the replicator and pulled up Kei’s biometric information and replicated some more sensible flats that matched Keishara’s dress. “Yes, Remy and I were engaged once, but it’s over now. It was a long time ago.” She said in annoyance to acknowledge the situation with Naal. “We both moved on and made our choices. Now it’s no different than our friendship. Try these instead.” She added as she handed Kei the shoes to put on.
"I knew it!" Kei looked all proud of herself for getting an admission but in truth she'd sensed latent feelings from her. Not much but the feelings from Naal were clear as day as he walked away down on the planet that she didn't even need to read Evelyn. It was then she was handed a different pair of shoes. "What's wrong with my boots?" she looked at her knee high leather boots.
Evelyn looked at Kei with annoyance at her commenting about her relationship with Remy. She considered reminding her they were over, but knew it was just best to move on. Handing Kei the flats insistently, she looked at her. “Because you clearly need to work on your taste. If you plan on bringing someone back to your quarters tonight, trust me on this.” She commented.
"Well, I wasn't planning on doing that. I never plan that, it just happens." Kei believed very much in fate and that what will happen will happen. It was something instilled in El Aurians that fate changes for no person and that time will follows the path it is meant to.
She threw her boots in a corner and then took the flats Evelyn offered. If anything she did have a softer dress sense than Kei was used to. Pulling the shoes up over her heels she kept her head down. "Do we know who's going down to the surface?" she asked, always with her security head on.
Evelyn leaned against the doorframe as she folded her arms, watching Kei as she shrugged at the question. “I’m not sure. I would imagine most people. I heard a lot of people are taking advantage of shore leave.” She commented. “But maybe you should just stop being a security officer and leave it up to fate.” She added sarcastically with a wry smile, teasing Keishara about her faith.
"I don't leave things up to fate. You imply it can be changed when it cannot." she fell into the trap. "Fate simply is." Kei added as she rose to her feet. Pesky flats were already annoying her. "However, I will try to 'switch off' as you have said before."
Evelyn gave a skeptical look to Keishara as she stood up straight. She didn't believe in fate or have faith in anything except herself. To her, there was no higher power than one's self. "Uh huh...regardless, Sophie is waiting for us at the transporter site. So let's get going before I invite Hirano along too." she teased.
"She better not make those stupid eyes at the XO again." Kei rolled her own eyes at the very thought of it. "I swear she's as subtle as a Klingon at a feast." They both walked out the door and headed towards the transporter room.
Kei stopped for a moment and frowned as she looked at Evelyn realising what she'd said. "Don't threaten me with Hirano." she smirked and then moved forward.
Stewart just chuckled softly in response as they headed to the transporter room. "Sophie's young. A lot of ensigns have crushes with superiors on their first assignments. You know that. She will learn." She said about Sophie's obvious crush on Greco. "Although there is no accounting for taste." She added sarcastically as they walked into the transporter room.
"Definitely not." Kei agreed. "Girl scout falls for boy scout. It is like a fable of old... boring and old." she looked at the transporter chief who grinned rather uneasily. "Don't look at me." she said simply as the man quickly returned his eyes to the console.
Evelyn glanced up at the chief. “Sorry, Ben.” She offered for Kei’s rude behavior before she pulled Kei aside, getting a bit frustrated by the El-Aurian’s conduct. “What’s wrong with you? There’s no reason to take your frustrations out on Rylie like that.” She said regarding her attitude towards the chief.
"Yes there is." Keishara replied as she released her arm from Evelyn's grasp. "Ben here was caught trying to transport someone else's girlfriend from his quarters not so long ago. The good chief here thought he could do it under the radar but screwed up and tripped an alarm. Naturally only he and I are aware of specifics, and now you some, but he lied about it and tried to say it was an accident." she looked at him and moved herself on to the transporter pad. "That is my source of frustration with Rylie, and I have forgiven him somewhat for it."
Evelyn just sighed at the security chief. If the El-Aurian only knew how she herself had messed with the sensor logs to hide the fact Koaruh was in her quarters with her when they were supposed to be on duty, Kei would probably end up in Sickbay with an aneurism. "You don't forgive easily, do you?"
"I forgive, I know people are imperfect, myself included. I don't forget and unfortunately that's a species trait. We have long memories." she sighed. "We experience life differently from Human's, and most species I think. Everything has it's own song, for lack of a better term, a resonance that we hear and feel. That is why I feel so deeply that I try to block it out." Kei opened up slightly at feeling a flash of emotion from Evelyn. "It's also why we are known as Listeners. We soak up all we see, hear and feel through the songs, the vibrations we feel, that sometimes we are silent or speak few words not because we are quiet, empathetic creatures but because to process things of great magnitude it takes us a little time." she chuckled softly to herself at the mention of time.
Evelyn just sighed and gave Kei an amused look. "Well, try to find a more upbeat song to listen to for the next few hours, alright?" She asked as she stepped onto the transporter pad.
Keishara put on a large fake smile as he facial expression changed. Her cheeks rose, her eyebrows followed and here eyes widened to make her look slightly maniacal but it was cut short as opened her mouth wide as if trying to pop her ears.
"Gods that hurts. How do people do that all the time?" she asked rhetorically as she too took to the transporter pad.
Evelyn laughed as she shook her head. "No one looks like that." She teased before turning to Rylie. "Energize." She ordered and after the shimmer of blue, both found themselves on the planet surface, just outside the main colony.
Stewart looked around to find the young Operations ensign making her way towards the two women.
Sophie sped up as she moved towards the other two. She'd beamed down a little too early, she was always like that, and had a little time to people watch as some set up their stalls and whatnot. "Hi! I was a little early..." Sophie announced.
Stewart gave Bishop a bemused smile. "Sophie, it's fine. Relax, take a deep breath." She told the younger woman. She had hoped that Sophie would learn with time to not be so high-strung, but Evelyn wasn't sure how long that would take. Glancing around, she kept an eye out through the throng of growing people. "Now we just need to find Remy..." She thought out loud.
"I am relaxed." Sophie didn't understand the comment. Did she come across as tense, always on alert? She didn't think so but then again you never see yourself truer than sometimes through the eyes of others. "I think he's over there." Sophie pointed.
Remy saw the small group of women in the distance and smiled to himself as he approached. Wearing a white button down t-shirt and khakis, he caught eyes with Stewart and the trio of women made their way over. "Late as usual?" He asked rhetorically. "I thought you'd never arrive." he added as he hugged Evelyn, kissing hers and Sophie's cheek. He nodded to Keishara in greeting.
"Mr. Naal." Keishara greeted the man with a return nod.
Sophie blushed a little at the light kiss on the cheek from Remy. She thought it was very European.
Remy grinned as he moved to Stewart's side. "Shall we?" He offered as they headed into the festival grounds.
