Mission: Year One: Whispers in the Wind
Location: Science Lab
Timeline: MD 15 - 1000

Dashku had finished a bridge shift and was finally able to break away from some of her bridge duties and take time getting to know the new ship. She was Operations, which made the entire ship her domain.

She might not be in command, but she made sure everything operated correctly, everyone was properly supplied and had use of the ship resources they needed. In this case she wanted to meet the Chief Science officer, as well as take a look at the device that had been found and see if she could decipher anything from it.

As she reached the lab, she looked over the control panel before she hit the button to open the door. There was a beep and the computer chimed in.

"Please state authorization command code."

"Zhevou Kappa 6-1-5-8"

There was a beep of acknowledgment and the door opened for her. She stepped into the small science lab, according to the computer, after medical had finished its DNA analysis of the device it eventually made its way back to the lab to be secured.

She walked over to the examination table and started to look the pieces of the device over. She didn't immediately recognize the tech, which made sense considering it was a mix of different signatures. It surprised her that it worked at all, but there was something scratching at the back of her mind. Something familiar about the concept of such a device.

Sophie had entered the room quietly. She noticed the woman in front of her staring at the pieces of the device in wonder and thought. "Strange isn't it?" she spoke as the woman startled a little. "Sorry, I didn't know how to say hi without giving you a jump." as she then looked at the device. "I didn't break that by the way."

Dashku turned her head, her pony braid singing slightly, to look at the sound of the voice. As quiet as she had been, Dashku had heard the door open and had the presence mind to know someone had entered.

"I read the report," She replied, as she looked at the blonde hair and the lighter skin. "You are Miss Sophie Bishop. I haven't had time to meet all of my staff, but good to meet you now. It is odd, to get all of this to work together would take a talented individual. There is something... familiar about it somehow but I can't place it."

Amarok entered holding a padd and tapping at it after having had input his codes for entry.

He stopped a few steps in when he looked up to see Sophie and Lieutenant Zhevou. "Ah, don't mind me, just doing my rounds." Amarok said and went to the wall consoles to work.

Sophie's ears perked up as Amarok spoke. Her brain was shouting 'he broke it' but she managed to keep her inside voice just that, inside. She was sure the report of its destruction would have noted who did so.

"I was hoping I'd run into you," Dashku spoke up, looking over at the Chief Science Officer. "I'm the new Chief of Ops. I'm trying to get to know all of the senior staff aboard."

Amarok glanced back over at the others. "Ah. Welcome aboard." He smiled at them both and nodded.

"Thank you," She replied simply. "If there are any concerns or needs of your department please feel free to speak with me. I want to make sure we are well supplied and that you have access to the ships resources as needed."

After a moment, she shifted her attention back to the pieces of the device.

"Any impressions about the device that either of you didn't put in your logs?"

"Only that is must have been put there after we left spacedock." Sophie commented without much of a filter. "We only started to see a power drain a couple of days before we found it. So it was either inactive beforehand, or all the different components started to fight one another and cause a conflict in power distribution within the device."

"Right, it drew from the ship's power systems," Dashku arched one of her brows as she looked back at the destroyed parts of the device. "Did you find an independent power source among the components?"

"It had an auxiliary power source, I think it needed to be charged and if power to the conduit failed then it would kick in and act as an independent battery." Sophie tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear.. She thought in to herself she might need to visit the ships hairdresser at some point.

"So the draw would eventually be detected no matter what," Dashku tapped her finger on her lips a couple of times as she let the new information settle. "Have you looked through the logs to see when a power drain started in that section? That would give us a time line. Might even give us a suspect pool."

"I tried to gain access but the logs are for those of a higher rank than me." Sophie commented with a slight disappointed tone. "Or at least I think they are. I might have been looking in the wrong area."

Dashku couldn't help but smile a little, "I'll have to look into your access, that's not something that should be classified above an ensign. I think we have a lead at least, I'll secure this and we can go. Lieutenant, my door is open for anything you need. At your convenience I'd like to chat about whatever your department's needs and priorities are."

"Thank you, ma'am. Might just be an admin error or something." Sophie shrugged. She looked over at Amarok to watch his reply to Lieutenant Zhevou.

Listening to Sophie the Romulan raised an eyebrow. "It sounds like that the Whispers only intended to have it be of use for only a certain period of time, as you say," he gestured at Sophie as he glanced at her then back to Zhevou, "it would have been discovered in time, they may have already used it and although we have found it may retrieve it at some point believing it still their secret."

Amarok half smirked. "We could put it back in its broken state and see what happens, obviously being watched, both on monitors and, discreetly, in person." He offered, he wished he had the idea much earlier and presented it to the command officers.

"Thankfully that's a decision I get to leave up to the Captain, the XO and security," Dashku chuckled softly. "I'll pass it along and let them know where it came from. For the moment I think I'm going to get you access Sophie. We'll establish a time line and I'll start studying the holoscans."

"Okay." Sophie smiled.

"I'll get you access Bishop, you look into the time line. See if you can figure out when it was placed. I'll look over the scans and we can meet up this afternoon? Say 1600?" Dashku suggested.

"Sounds good, ma'am." Sophie nodded in agreement. "I'm sure you can join us as well Lieutenant s'Lovok. If so we'll see you then." she added as she made her way out the door with Lieutenant Zhevou.
