Mission:
Year One: Whispers in the Wind
Location: USS Moore - Bridge - Captain Ready Room
Timeline: MD: 011 0930
If he didn't know any better, Kes would be convinced he was being pranked. Assigned to lead a small Marine detachment on an aging Star Fleet vessel wasn't out of the ordinary and he considered it an honour and a compliment to be assigned to any command position.
However, the details did not escape him. A Vulcan Captain and a mission mandate to escort Romulan refugees into Federation space. Kes managed, barely, to keep from scowling at the last part as he stepped onto the bridge with his orders in hand.
The bridge was small, efficient and orderly. Unlike some of the vessels he'd served and been a passenger on, this class gave no doubt it was a war ship. Everything had a purpose and no part of the operating areas were superfluous. He took a left turn as he walked onto the bridge and stopped in front of the Ready Room door.
He reached out with his free hand and pressed the chime before stepping back into an ease position.
Stryvek had taken solace as he often did in his Ready Room. He was the type of leader who was not close to his crew. This was mainly due to his Vulcan ways. So, the door chime came as a surprise as there was rarely someone outside of his door. "You may enter." He called to the door and he clasped his hands together on his desk.
The door slid open and Kes filled the opening with his large form as he entered the ready room. He stood just inside the door for a moment at attention before moving forward. "Greetings Captain Stryvek."
Kes walked over and handed the PADD he'd been holding to the Vulcan behind the desk. "These are my transfer orders for your approval." He took a step back and awaited Stryvek to look over the orders and address him.
Stryvek took the PADD without looking up. He looked at the record and took note of his race. There were some Vulcans who still held the animosity toward Andorians. Stryvek for a time was one of them. However, his time in Starfleet had taught him acceptance for most things. There was still a small part of his mind that was irritated by the Andorian's presence.
All of that said the file was in order, and the orders were confirmed. So, Stryvek typed in his verification code and the orders were complete. "Everything is in order. Welcome aboard First Lieutenant." Stryvek said as he handed the PADD back. "I believe you can find the rest of your unit on Deck 12. They have been running training drills as they awaited your arrival."
"Do you need me for anything before I take command on my unit?" Kes calmly asked. Starfleet operated differently than Imperial Command and could be a bit wordy. He'd learned to give them the chance to say their peace.
"Nothing is pressing at the moment. The only thing I would like you to take into account is all ship related duty must be coordinated with the Chief of Security Lieutenant Commander Davaris." Stryvek was not going to have a proverbial turf war on his ship.
Kes nodded. "Of course sir, We know our duty and we know the chain of command and responsibility. If there is nothing else, I will report to my unit officially before setting up a briefing with the Security Chief." He quickly moved his hands to his sides and awaited to be dismissed.
"You are dismissed Lieutenant. Welcome aboard." Stryvek replied and watched the Marine leave the Ready Room. The Vulcan was not fond of having Marines aboard the Moore. But he knew the old axiom of having something that is not needed as opposed to not having them and needing them all too well.
