Now doctors are normally sticklers where it comes to medical exams, well, where others are concerned. However when it comes to themselves, Doctors can make the worse patients. Lily, she does take care of herself, but reporting in for her own cursory examination? Sure it could be said she'd actually had that before arriving, but Lily was more of the mind of, if others had to have the medical exam when they first come onboard a new ship, why not her. A little bit of practice what you preach.
Tapping on her commbadge Lily sent out a call, "Lieutenant Yara, may I have a moment of your time please?"
Tollan was a bit surprised to have heard from the young doctor. It was the middle of the alpha shift and he was spending his time with Rufio and Koaruh in the DMZ, reviewing the latest stats for Parrises Squares teams, when he tapped his combadge. =A= On my way, Doctor.=A=. He gave his friends a curious look before getting up to go.
Tollan made his way to Sickbay. "You asked to see me, Ma'am?" Despite being a higher rank, and his symbiont was several centuries older, Lily was the chief medical officer and he would follow protocol.
When Tollan arrived, Lily took a good look at the Trill doctor, a friendly expression in her eyes. "I hope I haven't interrupted you in the middle of a project. If so, I do apologize." Lily having a wry smile.
"What I have asked you here for, shouldn't take too much of your time then you and I can get back to our other projects. To be quite open here, I'd like to do my cursory coming onboard examination. Since you are the most senior officer, I felt it would be most proper for you to give said examination."
Tollan gave a bright smile and nodded, moving to grab a medical tricorder. "It would be a pleasure, Doctor. You know the drill." He said good-natured as he gestured to the biobed nearest the other doctor to sit up on.
"Yes I do." Lily giving a chuckle as she got on the biobed. She adjusted herself in readiness for her examination. "I am trying to be a good patient but, well I may not be the best sort?" giving a chuckle.
Yara gave a curious eyebrow, both to Lily's comment and the readings on his tricorder as he ran the wand over the woman. "What do you mean?" He asked in a neutral tone.
"Well, I don't think I make a good patient. Last time I was in sickbay a few months back, i had been threatened with being strapped to the bed if I didn't allow myself to rest. The doctor back then, groused at me. At times I just don't like sitting idly by when I felt my injuries were just not that bad. Though in hindsight, I wouldn't have allowed my patient to get up and walk around when needing to heal." Lily stated with a light laugh.
Tollan gave a small smile as she finished his scans. “I would hope as fellow physician that restraints wouldn’t be necessary. What exactly caused the bed rest to begin with?” He prompted.
"Well now that is a tale to tell." Lily began then just chuckled "I won't make it a dramatic tale. In a nutshell, the ship I was on was escorting another ship. Pirates attacked, a huge battle ensued, lives were lost. Injuries were taken, the ship barely survived. We had taken heavy damage but were able to drive off the pirates. We limped back to the shipyard and then we were sent to heal from our injuries. There you have it in a nutshell. I lost several friends in that battle, including my mentor and friend, the CMO Edward Holmes."
Tollan winced at hearing the story, growing somber. “I’m very sorry to hear of your loss. It sounds like it was quite the ordeal.” He offered empathetically, moving to review the console. “Though it does explain your medical record. Several severe lacerations on your back and right leg, a concussion, three broken ribs, a second degree burn on your left thigh and cuts and bruises throughout your body.” He said, reading off Lily’s medical history from four months ago. “I can see why they threatened to restrain you.”
"This is why I said doctors seem to be bad patients. I quit arguing with them though, they were right in insisting that I rest up. I needed it and also time to mourn, or turn things into doing something in honor for those that had been lost. The one bad thing is, my mother was involved in that, as she is a doctor, she pulled the mom card." Lily giving a chuckle. "I knew then I wouldn't win."
Yara simply nodded as he reviewed the scans. "Mother's have a way of doing that I suppose. Did your mother serve in Starfleet?" He asked conversationally.
"My mother isn't but my uncle is. He's a teacher at Star Fleet academy. Commander Jerome Ryan Alexander. Dad's a chef runs a restaurant. Anyway, am I alive for now?" Lily giving out a laugh.
Tollan gave a warm smile as he leaned back against the console, arms folded in front of him. "That sounds like an interesting household." He mused before glancing at the console. "According to this, you are in tip-top shape. You are cleared for duty, Doctor." He said with a smirk.
"Thank you and yes my family is rather interesting. We're a close knit family, and make for quite the team." Lily just beaming as she thought about her family. "I can say we also have unique personalities. It works, what can I say. What about you? What sort of family history do you have?" Lily sliding off the bio bed.
Tollan put the medical tricorder away and folded his arms over his chest and he thought about the question before shrugging. "It's a bit difficult to put into words as a joined Trill. I have had four hosts already, each had a different life and bring different experiences." He said casually. "I'm afraid I need a more pointed question to be able to put it into words." He explained.
Lily nodded, casually leaning against the bio bed. "This current host does he have a family? Or shall I state it as do both of you have family? I've only treated five trill, I have done studying as to the physiology side of a trill and Symbiont, however I have found that the trill themselves are different from each other. It not the you meet one, you can know everything that is known of said person. To me that is a ridiculous notion. "
Tollan nodded. "It's a bit complicated to explain, even to non-joined Trill. Once you have taken a symbiont, you are never exactly who you were before the joining. The same could be said for the symbiont. Each life experienced is likes layers to one's being. I was born Tollan Iraklion, but now as Tollan Yara, it's almost like a rebirth." He tried to explain. With a sigh he looked at Lily, "But to answer your question, I have three brothers and a sister. I'm the only one of them to be joined. My parents are also unjoined. I don't have any children and have no significant partner and for now I think that is best."
Lily gave a bit of a nod. "I do find that interesting, about the changes of life that the symbiont goes through in their joining with a different host. And the same for the host as well. Sounds a little bit complex and yet interesting as well. Is there a true sense of a symbiotic relationship between you Tollan as well as Yara? Hopefully it isn't a constant battle."
Tollan considered the question for a moment. It was something he hadn't really thought of before. "I suppose I would call it peaceful. It's almost like breathing, you don't realize something is wrong until it is. Like I said, it's hard to describe. I don't know a different life anymore."
Lily gave a nod, "And that is interesting, I am enjoying learning more about your race. I think I can learn quite a bit from you. Your experience when it comes to medical. I maybe the baby chief medical officer of this ship but, I am not above learning from others."
Tollan gave a cheerful smile and nodded. "I look forward to working with you as well, Doctor. Unfortunately I do not have an extensive history of alternative medicine like yourself but I have been serving in Starfleet for several years and served at the tail end of the war. I might be useful."
Lily raised an eyebrow at the 'might be useful' part of the sentence. "Actually Tollan, I feel that you will be rather useful and you already are." she remarked firmly a gentle smile appearing. "Thank you for the examination Tollan. I probably should let you get back to your projects as much as I need to do so. Especially getting myself prepped for the upcoming festival. I am looking forward to going there."
Tollan smiled as he put the tricorder back on a nearby tray, preparing to leave. "As am I. I'm told they have all sorts of species throughout the Federation attending. It sounds like a good time." He said with a confident smile. "I won't keep you. It was good to meet you, Doctor."
Lily gave a smile and a friendly nod. "I am glad we ended up meeting. And will see you again soon."
