Year One: Whispers in the Wind
Location: Marine Barracks
Timeline: MD 12 - 1100
Dashku wanted to continue her campaign to meet the senior staff of the Moore. Even though the Prometheus class ship was new, it was a smaller combat ship when compared to the Akira or the Sovereign class ships but that didn't make her any less of a ship, but it did mean fewer people doing more jobs.
It also meant a smaller fighting force across security and marine departments, which meant access to weapons, training and the like would need to be balanced. She arrived at the Marine CO's office on Deck twelve and hit the chime, waiting for an answer.
Kes just put his ushaan-tor on the display on the wall behind his desk when the chime rang for his door. He glanced down at the PADD laying there. He had no appointments yet, so this was unexpected.
The large Andorian turned around to fully face the door and clasped his hands behind his back and lifted his chin slightly to stand in an 'at ease' position. "Enter." He called back.
Daskhu entered the small office, the gleam from the ushann-tor caught her attention for a moment. It was an odd looking weapon, but most Andorians could wield it well. She finally gave a nod to the Marine, "Hello Lieutenant. I believe we're both new aboard but I wanted to introduce myself. I'm Dashku Zhevou, I'm the new Chief of Ops."
Kes nodded. "Welcome Lieutenant Zhevou." He gave the tall Orion woman a quick look over before continuing. "I'm First Lieutenant Kes Th'relnal. Since you made the way here, I'm guessing you're aware I'm the Marine CO."
He motioned for the chair on the other side of his desk. "Please have a seat. Thank you for putting up with the clutter as I get settled in."
"No need to worry about the clutter, I just took over the ops department myself. I'm not exactly impressed with the previous temporary head of the department. I like efficiency and discipline in my department," Dashku commented, as she picked a chair and sat down in it. "I am aware that you're the Marine CO. I have a good idea of what your department will need in terms of equipment, holodeck time for training and the like but I want to hear from you."
Kes's antenna leaned forward. He appreciated the direct interaction as opposed to work orders. He moved a box to the side of his desk and sat down in his chair and tented his fingers together. "A standard rotation for holodeck training will be required. preferably holodeck 4. Also, if possible I would like room in either Cargo Bay 5 or 6 when not in use." He leaned forward a bit. "As for equipment, I have to get an invoice of our current kit and get back to you. In the meantime, I would estimate we will need replicator access for a few days to replace worn equipment and bring kit up to code"
"Baring a ship emergency, you should have no trouble with getting gear. If you could review your kit and what is programmed as approved, that would be helpful. I can make any adjustments needed. I'll send you a proposal for times for holodeck rotations, you and security will be higher priority for training vs leisure time," Dashku paused as she started making notes on her PaDD. After her pause she continued. "I'll need a formal request for the cargo bay use. I'll make sure I give you as much notice as I can if I have to have you move out. Are you planning on any permanent changes to the cargo bay?"
"No." Kes replied quickly. "Mostly for additional exercise and drills." He smiled a little. "The holodeck is nice, but having an additional low tech area works as well."
He sat back in his seat and watched at the Orion woman took down her notes. "Is there anything that my department or I can do for you and Ops to make your lives easier?"
"Just a willingness to work with me and the department when we need space or time in the holodeck. I promise, your training will be high priority," Dashku said with a nod. "On a more personal note, you can help me by letting me train with you once in a while. I like to keep my skills sharp."
Kes nodded. "Of course, we're not here to ride roughshod over anyone. We'll work with you for whatever your department needs." He crossed his arms in front of his chest as his antenna curled forward. "We're open for you to train with us, but you may want to clear that with Security first. I don't want to step on their toes."
"I wouldn't ask you too do it against the wishes of Security," Dashku replied honestly. "But I find that the security training for the crew is... a bit more basic than I'd like. Don't get me wrong, they are well trained and do a good job but I'm looking for a little more intense. I'll get it cleared."
Kes smiled a little. "You get it cleared and we'll get you into one of our training cycles." If she wanted to train with them, it would either be amazing to see a fleeter keep up or funny to watch her wash out.
"That's all I ask," Dashku smiled at the Andorian. "If there is nothing else, I should probably be on my way. I have a lot of work to do to make sure my department is ready."
"Likewise." Kes said as he stood up from his desk. "I look forward to working with you Lieutenant." He returned the friendly smile as his antenna moved a little together.
"And I you," Dashku replied with a nod his direction, before she stood up. She glanced up at his antenna, before turning to leave.
"Stay vigilant," She said before leaving the Marine's office.
